Transpo’s Break-Safe® Omni-Directional Breakaway System is for ground mounted signs located within roadside clear zones and other locations vulnerable to vehicular impacts. The omni-directional performance of Break-Safe® allows the system to break away with consistent, predictable behavior, regardless of the vehicle’s angle of impact, thus saving lives and reducing property damage.

Break-Safe® is designed to support a wide range of post sizes, up to and including the largest permitted by AASHTO. The flexibility built into the system gives you many choices when selecting post types and sizes for specific applications.

Accident research and field experience have shown that vehicles often leave the roadway impacting structures at high angles of incident. Break-Safe® has been crash-tested, resulting in a FHWA acceptance letter based on NCHRP Report 350 and also accepted under MASH 08. New national signing standards specify increased sign sizes for visibility, in addition to increased wind load levels. These changes create a significant increase in structural demands on sign supports.

No special tools or equipment are required to install and maintain Break-Safe®. All components are easily secured using the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) turn-of-nut tightening method, eliminating the torque requirement typical with other breakaway systems.



Transpo’s Pole-Safe® Omni-Directional Breakaway Support System features couplings designed to be used on poles located within roadside clear zones and other locations vulnerable to impacts. The primary component of the system is a high-strength coupling, engineered to break away quickly and cleanly upon impact. The poles break in a consistent, predictable fashion, regardless of the vehicle’s angle of impact, thus saving lives and reducing property damage.

Extensive finite element analysis and simulated wind-load testing has been used to optimize the system. Independent fatigue testing has demonstrated that Pole-Safe® couplings are capable of withstanding more than two million loading cycles with no reduction in structural capacity.

Pole-Safe® vehicle crash tests were conducted in accordance with NCHRP Report 350 using a 55 foot high, 930 pound pole.

Low initial cost along with high structural capacity and zero maintenance makes the Pole-Safe® Omni-Directional Breakaway Support System the most cost-effective solution for all breakaway applications.



Transpo’s Screen-Safe® Glare Screen Safety Shield protects drivers and work zone crews from headlight glare and debris with a barrier fence. It is maintenance free and simple to install on guardrails and concrete barriers. Easily the safest and most effective glare screen and barrier fence for roadways on the market today, Screen-Safe® is excellent for both permanent installations and temporary work zone applications.

Screen-Safe® is made from a unique double-reversed corrugated (DRC) fabric, formed from hot-dipped galvanized sheet steel. The DRC fabric is powder-coated to provide additional protection from salt and snow. All steel assembly components make Screen-Safe® the most durable highway glare screen and work zone safety shield available to the transportation industry.

Screen-Safe® can be installed in permanent locations on concrete barriers and steel guardrails. Screen-Safe® is also ideal for curved roadways, access ramps, raised highways, construction lanes and toll booth plazas. For temporary work zone installations it can be quickly removed and reinstalled at a new location, with minimal disruption to traffic flow.

DRC Fabric: Screen-Safe® is fabricated from 25 gauge steel sheet, AISI 1010 or 1008, and hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-653, coating designation G90. The finish is a light gray, medium-gloss powder-coat with zinc. It conforms to ASTM D 523 for gloss and B 117 for salt spray resistance, reference test for Bonderite. The film thickness minimum is 1.8 mils.
