Yard Supervisor

Safe Roads Alberta is a leader in the road side traffic safety industry, providing Alberta with the supply of temporary steel barriers, crash cushions, guard rail, high tension cable barrier, ground mount signs, overhead signs and sign structures. We are looking for a Yard Supervisor to join our team in Airdrie.

Reporting to the VP of Sales, apply your experience to help drive a lean culture to the inventory/yard operations, while owning safe work practices and exploiting opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency, and fulfill client service level agreements.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Organize material and equipment for the contractor partners
  2. Ensure accurate and timely scheduling and dispatching of trucks to ensure customer demands are met
  3. Manage and optimize yard space, storage system lay-outs, labour, equipment and material resources
  4. Plan, organize, monitor, control, adjust inventory location and material movement plans
  5. Analyze project scheduling and work closely with business partners to ensure inventory and staffing levels are available and organized to meet the business needs
  6. Maintain accurate inventory records, conduct regular cycle audits, and provide input on capacity
  7. Establish and manage to key performance indicators
  8. Develop and implement continuous improvement processes
  9. Investigate discrepancies and recommend/implement corrective actions
  10. Manage a fleet consisting of trucks, forklifts and various other equipment plus responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs
  11. Complete paperwork and reports as required
  12. Enforce safe working practices and environmental protocols within the yard
  13. Oversee general maintenance needs across the Alberta facilities

Your knowledge, skills and experience include:

  1. Inventory and/or yard operations experience – planning, inventory and productivity optimization
  2. Supply chain experience ideal
  3. Demonstrated success, identifying lean value opportunities and leading/managing positive change
  4. Understands the relationship between suppliers and contractors
  5. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and sense of urgency
  6. Able to prioritize own work and work of others to make the most efficient use of time
  7. Demonstrated accountability, problem solving and attention to detail
  8. Post-secondary education (College diploma or degree) or equivalent experience
  9. Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
  10. Flexible hours can be required, including weekends

Working Conditions:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear, and work outside in the yard in all weather conditions, as well as within an office environment.

Estimator / Project Coordinator 

Safe Roads Highway Products a leading roadside & traffic safety supplier in BC. We provide road signs, traffic calming and delineation, roadside barriers, crash cushions, and ground mount sign structures. We are growing and looking to add an Estimator / Project Coordinator to our team.

Working from our main location in Port Kells, BC, their main job purpose is to coordinate a project from the pricing phase right through to execution. Working with various business partners, this person will be the liaison between our local sales team, suppliers, sister companies and customers. This role is vital in the successful deliverance of premium customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities 

As Estimator, this role is responsible for the full cycle estimating process for sales opportunities and road construction & traffic supply tenders. This includes, but is not limited to the following: 

      1. Search market websites for project opportunities & receive bid invites/requests.
      2. Provide tender correspondence with contractors.
      3. Review & analyze all tender documents, forms, specifications and determine scope & schedule
      4. Prepare cost estimates for material, labour & equipment for the scope of the opportunity / tender
      5. Acquire quotes from material suppliers & 3rd party service providers
      6. Prepare quotes, tender documents & submit final proposal to customers and contractors

As project coordinator, this role is primarily responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to the client. They are the main point of contact for the customer once the opportunity has been awarded. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

      1. Proactively communicate and coordinate with clients, suppliers & partners re: scope of work and equipment needed to complete jobs 
      2. Review contract documents and create work packages which reflect all resources required
      3. Plan and schedule work according to available resources to meet client needs
      4. Organize and manage day to day project operations and staff during parallel daytime and nighttime shifts as assigned
      5. Trouble shoot field issues on-site to maintain workflow & meet deliverables
      6. Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

      1. 1-3 years of experience in the road construction or traffic safety industry working as an estimator or coordinator is an asset
      2. Civil Technology/ Construction Management Program graduate or relevant construction industry experience will be considered
      3. Candidates must be open to work during nights and weekends when required.
      4. Experience with BC Ministry of Transportation projects an asset
      5. Organized and results oriented with a sense of urgency and effective problem solving skills
      6. Strong communication skills 
      7. Demonstrated time management, scheduling and negotiations skills
      8. Proficient with MS Office applications such as excel, word, outlook etc.
      9. Must have a clean driving record. 
      10. Able to multi task and sustain productivity over long hours in a fast paced environment. 
      11. Previous supervisory experience is an asset
